Act now to vote say Greens

It's not too late to register to vote for the General Election say Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Greens.

With a recent report from the Electoral Commission highlighting that as many as 3.5m people are not yet registered to vote in the UK, and new that over half of 17-24 year old are not registered to vote, local Greens, Rhona Reekie and Sue Edwards are urging people to register now.

Green candidate for Aberdeen South, Rhonda Reekie said "Politicians have rightly lost public trust.  The MPs expenses scandal has turned people off politics.  But I think we need a fresh start and the first step is for people to make their voice heard.  Registering to vote is therefore important."

Sue Edwards, Green candidate for Gordon said "Many people are angry about the behaviour of our local elected members.  Most local councillors, MSPs and MPs won't even say publicly whether they support the Menie residents in their fight against being evicted when the Trump Organisation renews their request for Aberdeenshire Council to clear the families off their land.   But when wrong is done, then we must act and the first step is to vote out those who will not protect basic human rights."

With the expected 6th may election, the last date to regsiter is 12th April.  To register to vote, fill in the form at http://www.grampian-vjb.gov.uk/er-forms.htm or call your local Electoral Registration Office 01224 664848 (Aberdeen), or 01261 815516 (Banff)
