Shire Lib Dems attack City colleagues
Aberdeenshire's beleaguered Liberal Democrat councillors have opened
their election campaign for this May's council elections by attacking
their colleagues on Aberdeen City Council and City of Edinburgh
Council.
The extraordinary attack by the Aberdeenshire Liberal Democrats is
contained in a glossy election leaflet now being distributed.
Photographs of the leaflet are attached.
For the most part, the leaflet seeks support by listing what the Lib
Dem Aberdeenshire Council leadership see as their key achievements
over recent years. But, as a final argument, it also proclaims, 'And
there's one thing we are really proud we are NOT doing ... no vanity
projects like trams or new council headquarters.'
Liberal Democrat led City of Edinburgh Council is reintroducing trams,
while the Liberal Democrat led administration in Aberdeen decided on
the City Council's move into Marischal College.
Independent Aberdeenshire councillor Martin Ford said,
"Aberdeenshire's Liberal Democrat councillors clearly don't think
their own record is going to get them re-elected, so, in desparation,
they are resorting to lashing out at their colleagues on other
councils.
"I don't suppose Liberal Democrat councillors on Aberdeen and
Edinburgh councils will be very happy at being ridiculed in this way.
"It is true the Aberdeenshire Liberal Democrat councillors have made
something of a habit of behaving badly towards colleagues. But this
looks like panic and resorting to anything they think might reduce
their losses in May."
